Mouseflow Help & Support

Website is Shown with Wrong Encoding

When Mouseflow plays back a session or loads a heatmap, it automatically detects the character encoding on your website. But in some cases this detection fails. The result can be that special characters are not shown correctly on your pages.

In this case you can try to adjust the encoding through the control panel. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Mouseflow account.
  2. Navigate to the website you're interested in by choosing it from the drop down menu along the top next the to "Help" tab.
  3. Click the gear icon next to the "</>" icon.
  4. Under "Encoding", choose a specific encoding. If you don’t know your website’s encoding, start with UTF-8.
  5. Click "Save".

Visit your website again and create a test recording. View the new recording and check if the encoding is right. If not, repeat the steps above with another encoding.
